Ίδρυμα Λαόνα - Laona Foundation
Country
Description
Laona Foundation is a private non-profit-making organisation. The Laona project was developed in order to demonstrate to locals and government alike, that mass tourism development was not a solution to the economic problems of the ecologically unique Akamas area, but rather the preservation of its natural beauty and traditional culture. The project, funded by the EU and the A. G. Leventis Foundation, started in 1989. It involved five communities and held surveys and discussions with many more, evolving three years later into the Laona Foundation, which aimed to support the regeneration of rural communities throughout Cyprus, while maintaining their character.
