Ocean NGOs are non-governmental organizations dedicated to the protection, conservation, and restoration of the world's oceans and their inhabitants. Rescuing dolphins, protecting sharks, monitoring the ocean, and educating the public – these and many other things are done by ocean non-profit organizations whose primary goal is to protect and preserve the ocean. They work to create a marine environment where every inhabitant is safe and free. The world's oceans are a vast but very fragile system. That is why the pollution of the oceans has become one of the most severe environmental problems of our time. If humanity lost the use of ocean resources, the economy would grind to a halt and the world would plunge into chaos. But because of such intensive and often irresponsible use, the world's oceans are in serious danger. Mankind is rapidly evolving in the chemical, biological, and petroleum industries. As good as this is for humans, the world's oceans and their inhabitants are suffering every year due to the rapid pollution of the world's waters. The main types of ocean pollution 1. Physical. This type of pollution occurs by dumping trash and plastic waste into the waters of the world's oceans. Garbage has a toxic effect on ocean inhabitants, and many animals die from getting stuck in plastic waste. There are special giant nets and floating trash cans to capture trash and combat plastic pollution in the ocean. 2. Biological pollution comes from the dumping of biological waste into the world's waters, which makes negative adjustments to the microbiocenosis and microflora of the ocean. One of the most effective methods of treating biologically polluted waters is the immobilization of microorganisms on the surface of a carrier or the inclusion of them into gel granules (encapsulation). The most important advantage of immobilized cells is the preservation of their viability and metabolic activity for a long time. 3. Chemical pollution occurs due to improper disposal of industrial waste. Mercury, lead, and pesticides are dumped into the ocean and poison the water, resulting in the death of marine animals and plants. Bioremediation is used to cleanse the ocean of organic waste and alien bacteria. This method is based on introducing active microbial decomposers into a polluted water body, which not only allows for effective cleaning but also stimulates the restoration of the ecosystem's natural self-purification processes. 4. Oil. Oil film changes all physical and chemical processes: surface water temperature increases, gas exchange worsens, and fish leave or die. Hydrobiological conditions in the ocean change and the balance of oxygen in the atmosphere is affected, thus directly affecting the climate. To collect oil film from the water surface, various vessels and devices specially equipped with booms, oil-pumping pumps, and other devices are used. 5. Noise. The noise of ships' propellers often disorients sea residents, creates difficulties in communication between animals, and prevents them from transmitting differently colored information (fear, pain, pleasure, danger, anxiety, and a call) to each other. Moreover, whales and dolphins cannot distinguish artificial noises from the sounds made by their conveners, so they inevitably encounter ships – nowadays it is one of the main reasons for their deaths worldwide. To combat this problem, hybrid ships, which have quiet engines and do not carry noise pollution in the ocean, have begun to be produced.
All of this is cause for concern, so many countries have long been attempting to remedy the situation or at least minimize the damage that human activity is doing to the world's oceans. Understanding how globally the problem of ocean pollution has spread around the world, environmentalists are joining forces to confront the problem. Organizations fighting to save oceans and trying to implement key measures to protect water resources. Their activities are aimed at: ● conserving and making better use of available ocean resources; ● contributing to the sustainable development of the ocean; ● developing new technologies to ensure maximum utilization and decontamination of industrial wastes; ● elimination of the discharge of untreated wastewater into the world's oceans; ● creation of water protection zones adjacent to water areas; ● creating collaborations with an ocean conservation charity; ● creating petitions to prevent the dumping of oil and other chemicals into the ocean; ● restoring populations of fish species whose numbers have declined significantly due to pollution, etc.
