    Greece have been battling devastating blazes as the region suffers its worst heatwave in decades. Temperatures have risen to 45C (113F) in Greece.

    Scientists have warned that extreme weather and fierce fires will become increasingly common due to man-made global warming and climate change.

July 23

Firefighters in Greece have struggled to contain 82 wildfires across the country, 64 of which started on Sunday, the hottest day of the summer.

Fires also broke out on the island of Evia.

On Evia, the authorities ordered the inhabitants of four southern villages to evacuate to the town of Karystos, to the west of which the fire was spreading.

Lieutenant Governor of Central Greece Giorgos Kelaiditis, who was close to one of the villages, told state agency ANA-MPA that the situation was difficult. “The fire can be 2 km (1.2 miles) away, but the wind is strong, the smoke is thick and the air is hard to breathe,” he said.

2022

June 18 a fire broke out in the area of Gaia in Evia in the municipality of Kimi-Aliveri .
Greek authorities ordered the evacuation of the village of Kremastos as the flames approached houses nearby.
The Fire Service said that high winds make it difficult to contain the blaze.

2021

August , wildfires have broken out in many parts of the country during a week-long heatwave, Greece‘s worst in three decades, with searing temperatures and hot winds creating tinder-box conditions. Across the country, forest land has burned and dozens of homes and businesses have been destroyed.
The coastguard has evacuated more than 2,000 people, including many elderly residents, from different parts of Evia, which is linked to the mainland by bridge.
Others fled their villages on foot overnight, walking along roads dotted with trees in flames.  

2019

July, multiple wildfires are burned on the Greek island of Evia, requiring the evacuation of Makrichori, Neochori, Dafni, Gavalas, and Lofiskos. 
Officials said a 64-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of starting the first fire by using a naked flame to burn dried weeds near his house.
