About us
We are a not-for-profit conservation and research organisation working for over 20 years in the rainforests of Borneo. We partner with local stakeholders to implement landscape conservation strategies based on rigorous scientific research, and support communities to develop sustainable livelihoods that complement environmental protection. Our longest running programme in Sebangau Landscape, was founded in 1999 as the Orangutan Tropical Peatland Project (OuTrop). We identified Sebangau as home to the largest orangutan population in lowland Borneo, bringing the region to the forefront of orangutan conservation efforts and contributing in the award of National Park status in 2004. Sebangau National Park is one of the largest peat swamp conservation areas in Indonesia which has a main function in accordance with Law no. 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and Its Ecosystems. The National Park is managed by the Balai Taman Nasional Sebangau, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of Indonesia.
