About us
The Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI) is a non-profit nongovernmental organization. It was established in 2006, following a 2-year long project of the Travel Foundation that created a partnership of UK leading tour operators, environmental Cypriot NGOs, the Cyprus Tourism Organization – CTO (Deputy Ministry of Tourism as of JAN19), Cyprus Travel Agents and small village producers, their communities and associations. Vision To Make Cyprus the Leading Sustainable Destination of the Mediterranean Mission To engage all the stakeholders in the tourism industry to embrace sustainability for the benefit of the environment, society & the economy. Aims To harness tourism demand (tour operators, agents) with the supply of tourism resources (small producers and their communities) to develop a sustainable approach to tourism in Cyprus. Offering a memorable experience for the tourist, this approach also provides a clear economic benefit to villages marginalized by mass tourism, while minimizing adverse socio-economic and environmental impact. Goals To promote the development of a sustainable approach to tourism in Cyprus through: Sensible preservation, conservation and protection of the environment and the prudent use of natural resources; Reduction of the impact of our carbon footprint as a result of all our activities related to tourism; Improvement of the conditions of life in socially and economically disadvantaged communities due to tourism; Promotion of sustainable means of achieving economic growth and regeneration; Research and Education Sustainable development is a development that “meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
