About us
EcoOcean is a non-profit Israeli organization established by the Weil family and a group of leading scientists and environmentalists in 2002. The organization’s mission is to empower people to care for the marine and coastal environment of Israel and the region. We do this by means of research, education and civic engagement. We promote marine environmental protection, to become a high priority amongst the general public and policy makers in Israel. We believe that strengthening the bond between people and the sea is the best way to protect it. We represent the international Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). The Blue Flag program operates in over 4600 beaches and marinas globally. FEE helps us to facilitate an important partnership with the coastal Municipalities. We engage and recruit them to protect the marine environment by using FEE's international 'Blue Flag' renowned eco-label. EcoOcean accredit and inspect an average of 50 beaches annually. Under the Blue Flag program the following standards need to be adhered: Water Quality, Environmental management, Safety and services, Social responsibility, Environmental education information and Responsible operation around wildlife.
