About us

As Europe’s largest conservation charity, The National Trust looks after nature, beauty and history for everyone to enjoy across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The National Trust looks after some of the most iconic places in Northern Ireland – from the Giant’s Causeway to our highest mountain Slieve Donard, as well as about one third of the coastline, some 40 square miles of countryside, and wonderful houses and gardens including Mount Stewart, Co. Down and Florence Court in Co. Fermanagh.

The NT is Europe’s largest heritage & conservation NGO. It perpetually owns over 250,000Ha of land in England, Wales and Northern Ireland of heritage merit. Of this, over 220,000Ha is agricultural land. About 80% of the Trust’s agricultural land is managed by over 1,700 tenant farmers and approximately 40,000Ha is managed in-hand. This means that the NT is also one of the largest farmers in the UK.
