About us
Pragya Kenya is a non-profit development organisation committed to poverty relief, social justice, environmental protection and conservation, gender equality, access to education and disaster management. Founded in 2011, Pragya secures transformational change at the grassroots, focusing on the remote and marginalised communities often left behind in the development process. Pragya Kenya is working for the sustainable development of the most vulnerable and underserved regions in the continent and the vulnerable & marginalised communities that inhabit them, as well as the conservation of its sensitive ecosystem. Grassroots projects are being undertaken in the remote and deprived parts of the highlands of East Africa, and in the dryland savannah belt. Research on critical issues and policy needs is followed by necessary advocacy and support to other state and non-state actors. While all areas in the highland and savannah eco-zones fall within our ambit, our current grassroots work covers parts of the Rift Valley in western Kenya and northern Kenya. We aim to expand our scope in the near future to cover similar regions in Tanzania and Ethiopia. Our work in Africa is delivered through a small team and our office in Nairobi, Kenya. Pragya takes a practical and culturally-sensitive approach to development, grounded in long-term community partnerships where communities define the change they want to see. Working through a combination of grassroots initiatives, scientific and policy research, and advocacy at national and international levels, Pragya enhances the capacities of individuals, communities and institutions to create more humane and equitable societies.
