About us
Historical overview of the Sunflower Society for the Protection of Human and Environment: It was a wonderful moment upon which the General and Constituent Assembly members agreed to name our association the sunflower, to deepen our connection to this unique plant and flower in the earth, a symbol of survival and steadfastness, a symbol of beauty, giving and life. This name has been linked to the goals that we have set to improve the environmental human rights conditions of the Palestinian people, and to deepen positive behaviors that preserve our environment from pollution and loss of life, to take care of greening our hills and benefit from the raw materials resulting from pollution by turning them into supportive capabilities for our programs and skills and creating job opportunities for both women and youth. Although we started the founding movement in March 2009, we were able, with effort and teamwork, to decide to open an office and an address for the association, relying on individual donations from the members of the founding body, thankfully, until we were able to advance the status of the association and crystallize its legal personality in the founding site, the town of Al-Ram, the northern gate of the city of Jerusalem. The role of the founding body was characterized by intensification and the distribution of tasks and roles. The first administrative body was elected by the General Assembly on 9/18/2009, consisting of seven members. This pioneering role shone with volunteer work and the participation of members of the administrative and general body so that we could face the challenges in the founding period of the association. With these creative efforts and energies in volunteer work, high affiliation and sincerity in work, we were able to obtain the official license from the Ministry of Interior and from the competent body of the association, the Environmental Quality Authority on April 11, 2010.
