About us
The Society is a nonprofit charitable organization, founded in 1996 and incorporated in Delaware. Its office was moved from Newark, DE to Arizona in 2006 and is currently in Sedona, AZ. It was founded by 1996 with the goals of teaching about hummingbirds and working to prevent their extinction, the latter in response to approximately ten per cent (10%) of the known species being at risk. The Society is funded primarily by memberships: individual/family, business, and corporate. The current membership is dispersed across all US states and many foreign countries. Conservation efforts have initially been focussed on the Juan Fernández Firecrown, a Critically Endangered species found only in Chile. Beginning in 2008, we are adding the Honduran Emerald as well as an as yet unspecified species in Colombia.
