About us
Climate change and environmental degradation are serious concerns for the Chad. Water levels in the Lake Chad basin have diminished by 75% over the past 25 years, in part as a result of poor management and coordination between Chad, Cameroon, Niger, Nigeria and the Central Africa Republic, all sharing the lake’s resources. The conflict with Boko Haram in Nigeria and Cameroon is exacerbating already existing tensions between sedentary and nomadic communities that rely on the lake for their livelihoods. Chad’s climate landscape is varied and characterized by a Sahel Climate in the north and a Sudanese Guinean climate in the south. The Sahel region, which runs through the northern part of Chad, is characterized by recurrent drought and inequitable access to productive resources (land, water).
