Elephant Energy
Last Update: August 20, 2026About us
Elephant Energy is a home-electrification company that helps homeowners replace fossil-fuel heating and water-heating equipment in existing houses with electric heat pumps and heat pump water heaters, alongside solar and related efficiency upgrades. According to its 'Our Story' page, the company began as a DIY project: founders known internally as 'DR and Josh' tried to install a single heat pump in one of their own homes and discovered how confusing and fragmented the process was — sizing, contractor selection, rebate paperwork, inspections, plumbing, and electrical work all lacked a single trustworthy point of contact. That experience led them to found Elephant Energy in 2021 to build an end-to-end, one-stop service that handles the entire electrification journey for homeowners. The company's timeline shows rapid growth: its first heat pump install and founding took place in 2021; it hired its first employees in 2022; it established its 'Herdquarters' in Broomfield, Colorado and installed its 100th heat pump in 2023; it earned B Corp certification, expanded to Boston, Massachusetts, completed its first multi-family project, and installed its 1,000th project in 2024; and in 2025 it expanded to Los Angeles, grew to roughly 70 employees, and passed 2,000 installed projects. As of its most recent public reporting, Elephant Energy has electrified over 1,500 homes, installed 545 heat pump water heaters, helped customers access $8.2 million in rebates and incentives, offset an estimated 95,333 tons of CO2, and completed 166 heat pump installs completely free of charge for qualifying households, while employing more than 30 local contractor partners. As a Certified B Corporation, Elephant Energy is formally held to standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency that go beyond ordinary corporate governance, and it publishes its B Impact Score with the nonprofit B Lab. The company is also active locally, sponsoring youth sports teams and school fun runs, running community heat-pump giveaways on Earth Day, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity home builds, and packing meals with Community Food Share. It currently serves Colorado's Front Range, Steamboat Springs, Los Angeles, and Massachusetts.
