About us

Fresh Valley Farms is a fourth-generation family farm located in Spallumcheen, just outside Armstrong, British Columbia. The farm raises Certified Organic, pasture-raised beef, pork, poultry, eggs, and lamb, serving families across the North and Central Okanagan and beyond.

The farm is owned and operated by Annelise Grube-Cavers and Steve Meggait, who farm alongside extended family on land that has been continuously worked by the Meggait family since the early 1920s. Today, Fresh Valley Farms manages multiple farm parcels along Mountain View Road, combining long-standing agricultural roots with modern regenerative practices and direct-to-consumer food systems.

Fresh Valley Farms focuses on grass-based livestock systems, rotational grazing, and low-input management. Animals are raised outdoors on pasture whenever possible, with diets designed to support animal health, soil biology, and nutrient cycling. Beef and lamb are 100 percent grass-fed and grass-finished. Poultry and pigs are pasture-raised and managed to minimize environmental impact while prioritizing animal welfare.


Environmental and sustainability initiatives

Fresh Valley Farms approaches sustainability as an integrated system rather than a single certification or practice. Certified Organic standards form the baseline, but the farm goes well beyond those requirements in daily decision-making.

Certified Organic land and livestock
All farmland and livestock are Certified Organic. This means no synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides are used, protecting soil life, water quality, and surrounding ecosystems.

Regenerative grazing systems
Livestock are moved frequently using rotational and adaptive grazing. These systems promote healthy root growth, increase soil carbon, improve water infiltration, and reduce erosion. Pastures are managed to recover fully between grazing events, supporting long-term land resilience.

Permaculture-informed farm design
Farm layout and management draw from permaculture principles, including stacking functions, working with natural cycles, and designing systems that reduce waste and energy use. Trees, shelterbelts, and diverse forage species play a role in supporting wildlife habitat and farm productivity.

Renewable energy transition
Fresh Valley Farms has invested in renewable energy infrastructure, including solar panels and an electric delivery van, to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Farm operations increasingly run on clean electricity rather than diesel or grid-based energy.

Low-emission delivery
The farm operates an all-electric delivery van for regional customer deliveries, significantly reducing transportation emissions while maintaining direct relationships with customers.

On-farm poultry processing
Fresh Valley Farms operates a licensed, ministry-inspected, on-farm poultry abattoir. Processing birds on site reduces animal stress, minimizes transportation emissions, and supports other small farms that rely on the facility.

Nose-to-tail use and waste reduction
The farm emphasizes full use of animals and byproducts. Organic lard is supplied to local soap makers, bones are used for broth, and less common cuts are made available to customers. Packaging and systems are designed to minimize waste wherever possible.

Local processing partnerships
Red meat processing is handled by a trusted local butcher who was trained on the farm, supporting regional food infrastructure and keeping processing close to home rather than shipping animals long distances.

Biodiversity and land stewardship
Fresh Valley Farms participates in citizen science initiatives and works with stewardship organizations to monitor biodiversity on the land. Fields, forests, and waterways are managed to support birds, pollinators, and native species alongside food production.


Community-centered food systems

Fresh Valley Farms sells directly to customers through online ordering, farm pickups, farmers’ markets, and regional delivery routes. This short supply chain increases transparency, reduces food miles, and keeps food dollars circulating locally.

The farm also hosts educational events, farm tours, and community gatherings, using food as a way to connect people to land, farming, and ecological responsibility.
