In our experience, this is usually 6-10 years. With rising electricity prices, it may be even shorter. One of the most important variables is self-consumption – the more solar energy you use, the shorter the payback period.
In the Northern Hemisphere, solar panels are most effective when installed on south-facing roofs. However, solar panels also have the capacity to produce energy when the house faces west or east. This can result in up to 15-20% loss of production, but if you have a PV array facing both east and west, you will have more stable production during the day.
