About us
Our work on the Edible Insects and the People-Powered Future of Food public projects had expanded our thinking on food system structures. We started working on a project funded by the Finnish Ministry of Agriculture & Forestry to determine a model for how a sustainable, regional food system could be structured. We had the pilot area of the Åland Islands, a community of approx 30,000 people. Key themes and considerations came into play. Future resilience. Self-suffiency. Circular systems & solutions. Local collaborations. Radical ideas. Positive business opportunities. And “people power” – engaging local consumers in their food system by moving them from a passive to an active role through Food Citizenship. The end model created is what we call a thriving food system. A circular, people-powered system where conscious consumption is the norm, all resources are retained and utilised, and everyone contributes equally to the system. This model embodies a regenerative approach – that a food systems could help create positive growth for all it’s stakeholders through how its structured and operates. We believe this model can help local communities be fit for the future, and truly thrive!
