About us
Kotido is a small town and district in Northern Karamoja. The main group of people who live here are the Jie, a Karimojong sub-group. Since disarmament (2008 and before) the security is good in this region. Ronald en Anke Simiyu started living in Kotido in 2010. Ronald is working in Water Management and Agriculture for different organisations. Anke founded Karamoja Arts in 2011; with the aim to support local entrepreneurship, to help women in their livelihood activities and to put Karamoja positively on the Ugandan map. Because tourism is new in this region, we focused on that with our livelihood activities. Currently, Ronald and Anke are living on their Organic Farm in Ng’oyo. KUFAN Organic Farm. They travel regularly to support both projects at the same time. Karamoja Arts organises community tourism: to promote and support the Karimojong community. Find out more on our Arts and Crafts shop, our Accommodation, the Womengroups and other activities, which are also organised for you! We, Ronald and Anke Simiyu, work from our Christian identity to share with, and care for others in need. We trust in God’s promise that says: ‘If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray,… then I will hear from heaven, and forgive their sins and will heal their land!’ (Book of Jeremiah in the Bible). We trust that also here, the land can produce again enough for the livelihood of the people! If you are a Christian, please pray with us for this to come true.
