About us

Model Remodel is a Seattle, Washington-based design-build remodeling company that states it has been committed to minimizing the environmental impact of building since day one, describing sustainability as integral to its identity as individuals and as a company. The firm is an active member of the Master Builders Association and has certified over 20 remodeling and new-construction projects through Built Green®, the Pacific Northwest's regional green building certification program; in 2012 it completed a LEED for Homes project that achieved Platinum certification with the second-highest points score in the US at the time, and it received the 2018 Built Green Hammer Award for remodeling.

Every Model Remodel project incorporates a baseline set of green practices: partnering with CleanScapes and other recycling centers to divert hundreds of tons of construction and demolition material from landfills each year (with a minimum 50% recycling rate standard on every project), using no- or low-VOC paints, caulks, and adhesives to protect both crew and client indoor air quality, and defaulting to LED lighting throughout. Beyond these standards, the company offers renewable and salvaged materials sourcing, advises on insulation and air-sealing strategy, recommends FSC- and SFI-certified lumber, passive solar design, and explicitly avoids MDF and OSB products due to their semi-toxic adhesive content — a stricter material standard than most conventional remodelers apply.

Model Remodel is an active participant in the Northwest EcoBuilding Guild, helping plan and promote its annual conference and the NW Green Home Tour, and maintains detailed public resource lists covering green-certified countertops, flooring, lumber, and heating products for clients who want to go further.
