Overview of the Ministry’s Mandate
The Ministry of Tourism and Environment (Ministria e Turizmit dhe Mjedisit) is Albania’s primary government body responsible for environmental governance. It oversees regulation and policy implementation in areas such as nature protection, waste and water quality management, forest resource stewardship, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable tourism development 

Structure and Subordinate Agencies
Headquartered at Boulevard Dëshmorët e Kombit Nr. 1 in Tirana, the Ministry leads several subordinate national agencies: the National Environment Agency (AKM), National Agency of Protected Areas (AKZM), National Forestry Agency (AKP), National Tourism Agency (AKT), and National Coastline Agency (AKB). It also oversees the State Inspectorate for Environment and Forestry. These entities collectively manage environmental monitoring, protected-area administration, forestry operations, tourism promotion, and coastal zone protection 

Strategic Focus and Initiatives
The Ministry upholds Albania’s commitment to sustainable development—balancing tourism growth with nature conservation. Its agenda includes forest erosion prevention, air and water quality improvement, expansion and management of protected areas (now covering ~21 % of national territory), circular waste management, and implementation of climate adaptation strategies. In October 2024, it launched the National Tourism Strategy 2024–2030, emphasizing sustainable, community-centered tourism. The Ministry also engages internationally—for example, through a 2024 MOU with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) .
