Dzharylhach, the largest island in the Black Sea belonging to Ukraine and part of its water area, has a National Park protection status. Dzharylhach Bay, with the island, is one of the planet's most essential and unique wetland areas, protected by the Ramsar Convention. Unique species of dolphins, such as the bottlenose dolphin and the common dolphin, inhabit this area. In addition, valuable wetlands and endemic plants of the park's territory are listed in the Red Book. These are two types of plants: Kenter Rusanova and Black Sea Molinia. They can only be found on the island territory. All this is now in danger.
Causes of military ecocide
The Russian military committed ecocide on Dzharylhach Island. Established a training facility and conducted military exercises. They have set up a military training ground on the island, including artillery fire exercises.
Consequences of filling in the strait near the village of Lazurne
The closure of the «Lazurne strait» will lead to siltation and degradation of the entire bay's ecosystems, disrupting fish migration processes, a food source for wetland birds.
