Lake Gidigici in Moldova is dying from waste dumping
According to Oleg Sklifosovsky, president of the Ecodava Environmental Development Fund, the organization received a warning that the Gidigichi reservoir had been heavily polluted in recent days. Environmentalists say that the sewage network for pumping wastewater from Strasen to Chisinau has fallen into disrepair, it has not worked for many years, and the pumping station is currently discharging waste into the valley. Among the main causes of pollution in Lake Gidigichi, environmentalists point out the following: 1. Enterprises in the village of Kozhusna. From unofficial sources, it became known that these enterprises have reservoirs for sewage and waste, but at night or during rainfall the waste flows along the Bik River directly into Lake Gidigichi. Ichthyologist of Lake Gidigic, Iurie Botnari, says that the process of water blooming has started in the reservoir, and the reasons for that are high temperatures and the dumping of household waste from the pumping stations in Kožusne and Straseni. According to Bottari, the waste entering Lake Gidigic has a devastating effect on the entire ecosystem, including the fish. It should be noted that waste has been continuously discharged into the lake for more than 5 years. 2. Chemical compounds. These are mainly chemicals that are used in the agricultural sector to stimulate the growth of all kinds of plants, as well as to disinfect animals and to control all kinds of pests that are a danger to gardens and orchards. At the moment we can find 450 kinds of all kinds of solutions and chemical elements that get into freshwater sources through the soil. It is these that have a destructive effect on plant and animal life. 3. Pharmaceuticals. We are talking primarily about substances that affect hormones. They get into the liquid through sewage water. There is another way: all kinds of landfills wash them into the soil, and from there the contaminated water enters water bodies. 4. Acid precipitation. The fact is that industrial companies do not think much about where to put their waste and dump it directly into water bodies. Together with the wastewater, all kinds of heavy metals end up in the springs. People don't realize the consequences of such a careless and irresponsible attitude toward nature. Fresh water becomes the embodiment of dirt and a breeding ground for bacteria. Acid rain causes the most dangerous ecological disasters. They oxidize lakes, which destroys the aquatic world. Director of the municipal enterprise "Apa Canal" Straseni Konstantin Kostov said that the company, together with the municipality of Straseni, is currently developing a project of treatment facilities, which will be built in the region no later than next year. Recall that earlier DAAC Hermes donated to the company a pump, which is currently used to pump wastewater.

Tudor Puiu, the sanitary doctor at the Chisinau Public Health Center, noted that all lakes in Chisinau municipality have coliform bacteria, which can provoke acute dysentery. Similarly, there are lakes where the layer of water is five times less than the layer of silt. The municipal enterprise manages Lake Gidigic, the lakes in La Izvor Park, the lake in Valea Morilor Park, and the park named after Dumitru Riscaniu. Dumitru Riscaniu Park and the lake in Valea Trandafirilor Park. In January, Chisinau City Hall plans to launch an urban biodiversity research project, which includes studying aquatic animals and those living in the forests and parks of Chisinau municipality.

Environmental Development Fund "Ecodava" sent a letter to the Ministry of Environment noting the degradation of Lake Gidigici. Environmental Development Fund "Ecodava" is concerned about the situation and asks to organize a meeting with representatives of the Ministry and several non-governmental organizations (Environmental Development Fund "Ecodava", Alliance YMCA Moldova, Federation "Voevoda", Youth Government), which are ready to help improve the ecological situation of Lake Gidigichi.

A group of young ecologists discovered that about 1,300 cubic meters of residual water enter the Bull River daily only along the perimeter of Chisinau municipality, while the residual water that enters Lake Ghidigici is 800 cubic meters daily, and this water is then used to irrigate agricultural land. According to them, illegal discharges are the main source of pollution in the river. Environmental monitoring showed that water quality in Kalarashki district is relatively high, but there are storage lakes there, created without permission, and waste is not recycled or stored there. Based on the results of the expedition, the initiative group drafted a statement with recommendations and submitted it to the Chisinau City Hall and the Ministry of Environment. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca told the environmentalists that the City Hall does not have the tools to act in such a situation, and Deputy Minister of Environment Lazar Chirica said that the Ministry has an action plan to solve the relevant problems and that the young environmentalists should not worry.
