In 2026, Norwegian clean-tech startup Flocean is preparing to debut the world’s first commercial-scale subsea desalination plant at Mongstad, Norway—marking a major turning point in how freshwater is produced from the ocean. The initial facility, known as Flocean One, will produce 1,000 cubic meters of drinking water per day. Thanks to its modular design, capacity can scale rapidly—up to 50,000 cubic meters daily—enough to supply municipalities, industrial users, and agricultural operations.
