UK’s largest plastic recycling plant in Corby

Reconomy has revealed plans to invest £20 million in a state-of-the-art plastic recycling facility in Corby, operating under its Eurokey division.

The new 138,000-square-foot site in Northamptonshire is set to become one of the largest plastic recycling plants in the UK, specifically designed to support supermarkets, grocery chains, and retail businesses with advanced closed-loop recycling solutions.

Construction is currently in its final stages, with the facility expected to be fully operational by the second half of 2026.

Once running at full capacity, the plant will process up to 38,000 tonnes of plastic waste each year while generating more than 30 new jobs for the local community.

Driving growth in UK plastic recycling

Zubair Bajwa, Operations Director at Eurokey, emphasized the importance of the project:

“We are proud to be at the forefront of strengthening the UK’s plastic recycling infrastructure at such a crucial time.

For more than three decades, we have supported major UK retailers in improving plastic recovery rates. This new facility will significantly enhance our ability to deliver circular economy solutions.”

He also highlighted the company’s commitment to community impact, noting strong local support in Corby and the creation of new employment opportunities.

Advanced processing for multiple plastic grades

The Corby recycling plant will handle a wide range of plastic types that are pre-sorted at Eurokey’s nearby facility in Kettering.

After processing, the materials will be transformed into high-quality plastic pellets suitable for manufacturing new packaging. This enables retailers to reintroduce recycled content directly into their supply chains, reinforcing sustainable packaging strategies.

The close proximity—less than 10 miles—between the Corby facility and the Kettering sorting center will:

• Reduce reliance on plastic exports

• Lower transportation costs

• Cut carbon emissions

• Decrease the demand for virgin plastic production

Strengthening domestic recycling capacity

Mike Benton described the development as a major step forward:
