The Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association has been formed with the initiative of the International Shipping Community of Cyprus with the support of the Commercial Community of the island. CYMEPA is an autonomous, not-for-profit organization. It is operated under the auspices of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) Blue Flag aims to: - promote and participate in environmental education programmes for the users of beaches, marinas and boating operators - implement sound safety and environmental management systems - monitor environmental conditions to reduce the impact of human activity at the beaches, marinas and boating operators - increase the use of sustainable methods and raise awareness to create behavioural changes in the hospitality and tourism industry overall - environmental education activities must be offered and promoted in addition to a permanent display of information relevant to the site in terms of biodiversity, ecosystems and environmental phenomena.
