Keep Wales Tidy is a charity committed to working with local communities across Wales to protect our environment now and for the future.

Practically, we know that a good quality environment matters to people and that the benefits can make a real difference to our health, well-being, communities and to our economy. And crucially, it is great for nature too.

Our vision as a charity is for a beautiful Wales cared for and enjoyed by everyone.

The Wales Coast Awards play a vital role in protecting our precious marine environment and are recognised around the world as a symbol of quality. We’ve managed the Blue Flag, Green Coast Award and Seaside Award for more than 20 years.

To attain one of these prestigious awards a beach, marina or tourism boat operator must meet and maintain the highest environmental standards and achieve tough water quality targets.

Blue Flag is pure water, clean coasts, safety and access for all
The iconic Blue Flag is one of the world’s most recognised voluntary awards for beaches, marinas, and sustainable boating tourism operators. In order to qualify for the Blue Flag, a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility criteria must be met and maintained.

Central to the ideals of the Blue Flag programme is the aim of connecting the public with their surroundings and encouraging them to learn more about their environment. As such, environmental education activities must be offered and promoted in addition to a permanent display of information relevant to the site in terms of biodiversity, ecosystems and environmental phenomena.
Blue Flag is a world-renowned eco-label for beaches, marinas, and sustainable boating tourism operators awarded to more than 4500 sites in 45 countries. 
It is operated under the auspices of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and is headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark. Blue Flag aims to: 
- promote and participate in environmental education programmes for the users of beaches, marinas and boating operators 
- implement sound safety and environmental management systems - monitor environmental conditions to reduce the impact of human activity at the beaches, marinas and boating operators 
- increase the use of sustainable methods and raise awareness to create behavioral changes in the hospitality and tourism industry overall.
