About us
Retorna is a Spanish environmental non-profit and non-governmental institution established in 2010 in Barcelona, with a national and international area of work. Returns focuses on advocacy and awareness-raising on Zero Waste and the huge problem of beverage containers being abandoned in our natural and urban environments. Returns requests politicians to approve and implement ambitious zero waste measures, including deposit return systems. Returning to the habit of returning cans and bottles to the store with a deposit of 10 cents is going to end the daily abandonment in Spain of 30 million beverage containers every day. This practice worked in Spain until the 1980s and is currently carried out successfully in more than 40 regions of the world, since it prevents many of these abandoned containers from ending up at the bottom of the sea every day, helps in the fight against climate change and promotes a clean circular economy. That is why, both in Spain and in the rest of the world, 85% of citizens welcome 'returning the helmet' in its version 2.0.
