About us
With roots back to 1983, MEDASSET-Mediterranean Association to Save the Sea Turtles was founded in 1988 in England and in 1993 in Greece, having as its core mission to contribute to the conservation and protection of sea turtles in their natural habitats throughout the Mediterranean. MEDASSET is an international NGO registered as a not-for profit organisation in Greece. Since 1988, MEDASSET is a partner to UNEP/MAP (Mediterranean Action Plan) and its Action Plan for the Conservation of Marine Turtles in the Mediterranean, a Permanent Observer-member of the Bern Convention for the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats, a member of the Greek Herpetological Society, of MIO-ECSDE and of the Marine Ecology & Conservation Network of Exeter University (UK). MEDASSET works under the main themes of: Sea turtles, coastal & marine habitats (incl. P. oceanica), Marine Protected Areas, Fisheries interaction, Sustainable and responsible tourism, Litter & pollution, Sustainable coastal & offshore development, Climate change and Maritime traffic impact mitigation, incl. anchoring.
