About us
Tree Adoption Uganda (TAU) is a youth-centric NGO established in 2012 and registered on 8th November 2013. It's a nonprofit powered by the vision of creating communities where people and nature flourish. Through landscape restoration activities like planting trees and agroforestry, we build resilience for small holder farmers against the changing climate while economically empowering unemployed young people in Uganda's rural communities through education and training on setting up and managing indigenous tree nurseries and tree farms. This way, we arouse passion among community members to work towards sustainable agroforestry practices, conservation and restoration of under green areas. We have so far worked with 1000 individual households on Sustainable land Management approaches and planted over 455,000 trees through collaborative agroforestry with communities in Mpigi, Nakaseke, Kayunga, Bududa, Mukono, Ngora, Serere, Soroti, Luwero, Kayunga and Kumi among others, and 350,000 of these trees have been mapped by GPS coordinates in our innovative tree tracking effort. We have trained more than 2507 young people on variable aspects of environmental conservation ranging from setting up tree nurseries, grafting, pruning, propagation, human and nature interactions. We have also worked together with local and international partners to design an interactive and proactive environmental education curriculum for young people at variable age groups.
