About us

WWF-Brazil is a Brazilian non-partisan, non-profit civil society organization that works in defense of life, and to this end, our purpose is to change the current trajectory of socio-environmental degradation. Created in 1996, it is active throughout Brazil and is part of the WWF Network (Worldwide Fund for Nature), present in more than 100 countries. In the coming decades, population growth and consumption patterns will double the world's demand for food and natural resources. If we do not reduce global greenhouse gas emissions and the loss of species and natural ecosystems, everyone's living conditions will be seriously compromised by the end of the century. In this scenario, there is no local or global solution without urgent systemic changes in Brazil. Besides the importance of the Amazon in regulating the Earth's climate, the country concentrates on the largest biodiversity on the planet, has great availability of water resources, and the potential to be the largest producer of food. And it can also become a reference, an inspiring global leadership if it can show the world that yes, it is possible to reconcile socioeconomic development with environmental conservation.
